Precision Angioplasty with Dual-Modality Imaging: Complete Plaque Resolution Using Makoto System

Today, we performed an angioplasty using a specialized intravascular imaging system from Japan called Makoto. It is notably the only FDA-cleared system that uses a dual-modality approach, combining Intravascular Ultrasound (IVUS) with Near-Infrared Spectroscopy (NIRS). The system translates NIRS data into a color-coded ‘chemogram,’ allowing us to see exactly where dangerous lipid plaques are located. We implanted two stents, and IVUS confirmed good expansion. Post-procedure NIRS showed the total disappearance of plaque with no unstable lesions remaining.
