A strong-willed 74-year-old lady was admitted for abdominal pain, but unfortunately developed a severe heart attack while in the ward and required intubation. I was called to attend to her at midnight. An urgent angiogram revealed severe three-vessel disease, and one major blockage was successfully opened. She remained in a critical state for the next two weeks, needing high-dose cardiovascular support medications. With excellent critical care, she finally began to show signs of improvement. Fast forward almost a month in the hospital: she awoke, successfully underwent rehabilitation, and was discharged well. This case demonstrates that no matter a patient’s age, rapid action, prompt revascularization, and a dedicated management team can make achieving a positive outcome entirely possible.
